Our Legacy

Nestled within the serene 200-acre National Wildlife Refuge, Benedictine Living Community-At The Shrine in Belleville, IL, is a place where natural beauty, spiritual fulfillment, and a deep sense of community come together. Located on the sacred grounds of The National Shrine of Our Lady of Snows, our community has been a cherished part of Belleville since 1966. The unique architecture of our buildings reflects the soulful heritage of the area, blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape to create a peaceful and inspiring environment.
Here, faith and care are central, with daily Catholic Mass and weekly Protestant services held in our beautiful on-campus chapel, nourishing both the spirit and the soul. The presence of a spiritual director ensures that every resident’s spiritual needs are met. Our beautifully landscaped outdoor patios, gardens, and walking paths invite residents to enjoy the tranquility of nature, where it’s not uncommon to spot deer, wild turkeys, and even the occasional fox or bear.

Vibrant Living in a Faithful Community

Life at The Shrine is enriched by a wide variety of activities and events, from live entertainment and outings to the St. Louis Symphony, to the simple joy of sharing a free continental breakfast with friends in our cafĂ©. Residents also enjoy wonderful meals in our main dining room, where restaurant-style service makes every meal a delight. Our “At Your Service” program allows residents to remain in their independent apartments longer, fostering a family-like environment that truly feels like home.
Whether you’re a senior seeking a community that honors both faith and well-being, or an adult child looking for a place where your loved one can thrive, Benedictine Living Community-At The Shrine offers the perfect blend of care, connection and community in the heart of Belleville.
