Veterans Coffee, Cards and Conversation: A Place Where Stories Still Matter

Some conversations stay with us long after they end. For many veterans, those conversations happen with people who understand what it means to serve, sacrifice, and carry experiences that may be difficult to explain to others. Over time, opportunities to gather with fellow veterans can become less frequent. Yet those connections often become even more meaningful.

That spirit is at the heart of Veterans Coffee, Cards and Conversation at Benedictine Living Community-Winona.

Beginning this summer, local veterans are invited to join us for four Friday morning gatherings featuring coffee, cards, conversation, and the kind of camaraderie that needs no introduction. Whether you have called Winona home for years or are new to the area, this is an opportunity to spend time in community with others who share a common bond.

More Than Coffee and Cards

Research continues to show that social connection plays an important role in healthy aging. For veterans, time spent with peers who share similar life experiences can offer something even deeper: understanding, respect, and a sense of belonging. These gatherings are intentionally simple. There is no formal program, no presentations, and no pressure.

Instead, veterans can enjoy:

  • A fresh cup of coffee and light refreshments
  • Friendly card games and casual activities
  • Conversation with fellow veterans from the Winona area
  • The opportunity to bring a spouse, family member, or friend

Sometimes, the most meaningful events are the ones that simply make space for people to be themselves.

Why Attend?

Many veterans tell us they miss the easy conversations that happen when people share common experiences. Life becomes busy, friends move away, and opportunities to gather may grow fewer. Events like this help fill that gap. You may reconnect with someone you have not seen in years. You may meet a fellow veteran who served during the same era. Or you may simply enjoy an hour of good company and a strong cup of coffee. Whatever brings you through the door, you will find a welcoming community ready to pull up another chair at the table.

Reserve Your Spot

The first gathering is approaching quickly, and we expect strong interest from veterans throughout the Winona area.

If you are considering attending, we encourage you to invite a fellow veteran, spouse, friend, or family member to join you. Some of the best conversations begin when someone simply says, Come with me.

We look forward to welcoming you for coffee, cards, and conversation. Sometimes the most meaningful part of the day is simply sitting down with people who understand your story.
