My wish for You: Children and Seniors Celebrate National Grandparents Day Together

Ada native and children’s author Amy Aanenson returned to her hometown to celebrate National Grandparents Day by reading her new book, My Wish For You, to Benedictine Living Community-Ada residents and Little Learners preschoolers. My Wish For You expresses the hopes and dreams that parents (and grandparents) hold for the children in their lives.

Aanenson illustrated her book with whimsical watercolor illustrations of animals. As a child, “I liked to color outside the lines and do my own art. I was told, ‘We don’t do that,’ and as a teacher and special ed teacher, that is one lesson I took with me. We don’t tell kids to always color inside the lines,” she explained.
With that in mind, the preschoolers partnered with the “grandmas and grandpas” to create art inspired by the book. The kids handed out handmade Grandparents Day gifts to the seniors and they, in turn, gave a copy of My Wish For You to all the preschoolers, a surprise intergenerational gift exchange.
Intergenerational Connections at Benedictine Ada Enrich the Lives of Seniors and Children
Because Little Learners Early Childhood Education Center is located onsite at Benedictine Ada, the children often come over to share in activities. The senior community offers independent living, skilled nursing and therapy services and is also directly connected to Essentia Health’s hospital, emergency room and clinic. We invite you to schedule a tour and learn more about how Benedictine Ada supports purposeful living for all generations.
My Wish For You is available at online retailers, including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
