Honoring a Lasting Legacy

During her time as Director of Mission Integration, Sister Claudia Riehl, OSB, touched the heart of Benedictine in a lasting and meaningful way. With deep faith and genuine compassion, she helped weave the Mission and Core Values into every part of Benedictine—shaping the culture and spirit that make Benedictine unique.
There was something truly special about Sister Claudia. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, offering kindness, wisdom and encouragement. Reflecting on her ministry, she once shared, “My goal was to keep alive the healing ministry of Jesus.”
For more than two decades, Sister Claudia lived out the Benedictine Mission and Core Values with humility and grace. Her life and service inspired countless others. In 2010, to honor her lasting impact, the Benedictine Foundation established the Sister Claudia Riehl Living A Legacy Program. When asked about this honor, Sister Claudia responded with characteristic humility: “It was very humbling and overwhelming and amazing and affirming, but I didn’t get to be successful at this ministry without the help of everyone else. My goal was to make a difference.”
Today, the Sister Claudia Riehl Living A Legacy honor continues to lift up associates who embody the spirit and mission that Sister Claudia so faithfully lived. Each year, individuals from Benedictine communities, as well as the Support Center, are recognized for their extraordinary commitment to serving others through the shared Benedictine values.
Congratulations to the 2025 Sister Claudia Riehl Living a Legacy honorees as they give life to the Benedictine Mission and Core Values.
