What is skilled nursing?
Skilled nursing provides professional, compassionate support and medical supervision delivered around-the-clock by licensed professionals, including RNs, LPNs, certified nurse aides and certified medication aides. A skilled nursing facility is appropriate for individuals recovering from illness, injury, surgery or stroke who need intensive therapy and nursing care to gain optimal health and well-being. Skilled nursing is also appropriate for individuals who need long-term care, such as those who have an ongoing health condition, permanent disability, chronic severe pain, or those who have become frail due to the natural effects of advanced age. Yes, family and friends are welcome to visit. When you tour the community, be sure to ask about visitation policies.
Can I use my long-term care insurance?
In general, long-term care insurance policies can be used to pay for skilled nursing services. Consult your specific policy and your insurance agent for more information about what your policy will cover.
Will Medicare pay for skilled nursing?
Benedictine is a Medicare-certified provider of skilled nursing. With a qualifying hospital stay, Medicare typically covers days 1-20 of the stay. A Medicare-set daily coinsurance rate will be assessed for days 21-100. Medicare payment rules are very stringent and vary depending on a number of factors.
