BHS appoints Trent Pepper, JD, as General Counsel and Senior Vice President, Legal Services

[Duluth, Minn.] Trent Pepper, JD, has been appointed general counsel and senior vice president of legal services at Benedictine. Pepper succeeds Donna Loomis, JD, who will retire June 30, 2019. Benedictine is a leading faith-based provider of senior care and senior living services in the Midwest.

Pepper has served as Benedictine’s assistant general counsel since 2012. In that role, he has provided legal counsel in areas such as risk and litigation management, mergers and acquisitions, employment law, and health care compliance, and has been responsible for various initiatives focused on operational effectiveness and process improvement.

“We welcome Trent in his new role and thank Donna for her more than 15 years of valuable service to the Benedictine Health System,” said Jerry Carley, BHS president and CEO. “Trent’s knowledge and experience will provide a seamless and stable transition for BHS.”

Prior to joining BHS, Pepper worked as an attorney in private practice, clerked for the Honorable G. Barry Anderson of the Minnesota Supreme Court, and clerked for the Honorable Lavenski Smith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Active in his community and profession, he has served on the Performance Excellence Network Board of Directors and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and LeadingAge.

Pepper received a bachelor’s degree from John Brown University, a juris doctor from Ave Maria School of Law, and a health care master of business administration degree from The College of St. Scholastica.
