The Ensign Group to acquire Benedictine Living Community-Wausau

Benedictine has reached an agreement to transfer ownership of Benedictine Living Community-Wausau to River Hawk Healthcare LLC, a subsidiary operating company of The Ensign Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENSG), effective November 1, 2024.

The Ensign Group, Inc. is the parent company of the Ensign TM  group of companies, which invest in and provide skilled nursing and senior living services, physical, occupational and speech therapies, other rehabilitative and healthcare services. The Ensign Group, Inc., operates numerous skilled nursing and senior living facilities across 14 states, providing a wide range of healthcare services, including physical, occupational and speech therapies.

Benedictine Living Community-Wausau was founded in 1980 by the Diocese of La Crosse and acquired by Benedictine in 2012. It is an 82-bed skilled care community with 100 associates serving aging adults.

Over the past decade, senior care has been evolving. Benedictine is committed to meeting the needs and desires of aging adults, yet to do so effectively, Benedictine believes that providing a continuum of services, especially in the areas of assisted and independent living is essential. Currently, the Wausau area is well-served in terms of assisted living service.

“After carefully exploring various options, Benedictine determined that the best option for the future of Benedictine Wausau is to transition to the ownership to another organization. This will allow Benedictine Wausau to continue providing high-quality skilled nursing services to the residents of the Wausau area,” said Jerry Carley, Benedictine president/CEO.

The Ensign Group has expressed their intention to retain current Benedictine Wausau associates. Benedictine and The Ensign Group teams will be working together toward a smooth transition.
