December 6, 2023Benedictine Home Health is one of the newest services offered by Benedictine Living Community–Duluth. Our team of 12 professionals are here to help. November is National Home Care Awareness Month. We invite you to celebrate with us as our team works to keep you in your own home whether that be in a neighborhood, apartment building, or an assisted living facility. Brenda Marshall, Home Health Manager, shared “We are grateful to be a part of the Benedictine Family as we round out our continuum of care for our community.”
Our services include:
- Skilled nursing – monitor the effectiveness of new or changed meds, pain management, wound care, catheter management, injections, exacerbation of COPD or CHF, disease management education such as Diabetes, or IV dressing changes and labs.
- Physical Therapy – work on balance, strength, transfers, and ambulation. Ideal for someone at risk of falling or who has fallen. They work with adaptive equipment like canes and walkers and those who have a musculoskeletal or neurological condition such as a stroke. PT works to promote functional independence from bed mobility to walking on uneven surfaces, vertigo to developing an individualized home exercise program.
- Occupational Therapy – works to help people with ways to be more independent, safe or proficient with dressing, grooming, bathing, eating, meal prep and light housekeeping. They help obtain adaptive equipment such as reachers, toilet risers, special utensils and standard or custom wheelchairs. They do home safety assessments and also develop individualized home exercise programs.
- Speech Therapy – works with dysphagia, communication, language, cognition and voice. This includes swallowing problems, modified textures or consistencies of food and liquids. They have also been trained to work with Electrical Muscle Stimulation Equipment (ESTIM) as well.
Home Health works together with your primary health care provider (MD, PA or CNP) to make sure your plan of care meets your individual needs. 99% of the time visits are covered 100% by Medicare or an insurance. Services are meant to be short term, averaging between 2-6 weeks, depending on the services needed. Referrals may be received from your physician, hospital discharge planner, and/or licensed health care provider.
